A couple of movies
So what do you do during winter break when you have nothing else to do but stay up late at night? You watch movies! And that I did…
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou - Great movie! I love Wes Anderson’s movies; they have a unique sense of humor to them, and this movie was no exception. Bill Murray was excellent in this movie. I think he was the perfect actor for the part. I really liked this movie’s soundtrack as well; especially with Seu Jorge’s Brazilian covers of David Bowie’s songs. The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou is a great comedy movie!
Batman Begins - Loved it! I used to watch Batman all the time as a kid, so it would have been a big let down for me if this movie was bad. It was interesting to see what they came up with for modernizing Batman’s equipment. It was all very cool and creative! Can’t wait for the next Batman movie!
Doom - Even though I heard this movie sucked, I played Doom 3 the game, so I wanted to see what they did with the movie. Yep… it sucked. The movie was nothing more than a bunch of bad actors running around yelling naughty words a bunch of times. Once I heard Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was cast as the leading role, I knew this movie would be doomed (pun intended). They should have tried a lot harder to make the movie scary like how Doom 3 was. It could have been so much better. I heard rumors of a Half-Life 2 movie. That game was a lot better than Doom 3, so I hope that movie will be a lot better than Doom.
The Ring Two - It was alright. I didn’t think it was really scary, although I didn’t think the first movie was scary either. The original Japanese versions of The Ring are probably a lot better than the American remakes.
Fantastic Four - Not that bad. It wasn’t as good as some other movies that were originally comics, but it was still entertaining. It seems like there is going to be a sequel to this movie; that should be interesting to see.
Memoirs of a Geisha - A good drama/romance movie. I didn’t really know too much about this movie before I started watching it, so it didn’t hit me that I was watching a semi chick flick until like halfway through the movie. It’s okay though, it was actually a pretty good movie; the story was good. All the girls in it were really beautiful as well!
Sin City - I finally got a chance to watch this movie, and it was awesome! It was a little too graphic than I would have prefered, but it was all in good fashion. I liked how the movie had intertwining stories, like in Pulp Fiction (funny how Quentin Tarantino was involved in both movies). The movie reminded me of the game Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne (which I loved), in the sense that both are film noir stories, make use of a lot of metaphors, and are self-narrated. After watching Sin City, I’m now interested in checking out the original comics by Frank Miller. Those should tide me over until the sequals are released.
