Just Dreams

I recently finished the game Fahrenheit (aka Indigo Prophecy in the US). I must say, it was an awesome game! It instantly became one of my top favorites. The game follows the story of Lucas Kane, a typical New Yorker whose life takes a turn for the worse when he decides to eat out at a diner one night. One moment Lucas was minding his own business, the next he finds himself in a bathroom stall, in a trance-like state carving symbols into his arms with a steak knife. When he emerges from the stall, he uncontrollably murders an unlucky man in the bathroom. After the crime was committed, Lucas snaps out of his posessed state of mind and realizes what he has just done. With the police hot on his trail, it’s up to Lucas to figure out what really happened to him that cold New York night.

This game is one of a kind. Quantic Dream did a great job with making the game unique. Fahrenheit really isn’t much of a game, but rather an interactive movie with a great storyline. This isn’t your typical adventure game where you’re dropped into a world with weapons and have to fight your way through. Instead, you, as the player, get to control all the main characters of the game as the story progresses. You have to make decisions that can affect anything from the dialog, to how the game advances. The gameplay was well thought out, from the explorable environments to the DDR style interactive cutscenes. Driving you through the game are well-acted voice dialogs and an original soundtrack that creates the perfect atmosphere. Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy is a great game that I would highly recommend. I hope to play a sequal to this game, or more games like this one in the future.
